12 FASHION LESSONS YOU SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF |@dorcasbasseyblog

Do you sometimes get stressed out by not being fashionable? Do you feel that trends go too fast even for you who love fashion? Are you lost among so many must? Don't worry, it's not worth losing your mind over fashion. Read on and learn a few lessons that will make you feel much better.

1. Don't Stress About Following Trends

The cycle of trends is so fast that no garment is in or out for very long. And, of course, not to the point of stress. In fact, the fashion world offers you such a variety of styles that you can find almost anything you want as long as you put the time into it.

2. Your "body type" Doesn't Dictate What Trends Look Good On You

People like to say that certain trends only look good on tall skinny girls (midi skirts, crop tops, wide-leg pants...) but that's not always the case. If fit, proportion, and style are balanced, then body size won't matter. It is clear that if a dress has been designed for a model's body, it will not look the same on a girl like you and me, but with some adjustments, it can look good. And if it doesn't look good, it's not your problem, it's the dress. The woman's body is never a problem.

3. Self-Confidence Makes Clothes Look Better

It's true that if you feel good about yourself, you'll look fabulous from the outside, but don't overdo it either. The truth is, even your favourite dress can look sad if it's wrinkled, It is when you take a little time and effort to work on yourself, then you can be rest assured to look spectacular.

4. Don't let Insecurities Contaminate Your True Personal Style.

You may have already internalized many of your self-imposed fashion rules (such as “don't wear skinny jeans” or “purple doesn't look good on you”, etc…) and automatically ignore certain things when looking for style inspiration. To have a more precise image of what your style is, imagine that you can wear EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING you want… What things would you wear? This should be your guide to see what your true personal style is.

5. People Will Only Know Your Clothes Are Cheap If You Say So

Many designer clothes are priced so inflated that the only way to tell the difference between a mass brand and a high-end one, at least at first glance, is to look at the label. So you can rock your clothes and still feel good no matter the price.

6. Fashion Isn't All About Trends

Fashion is about following trends but style is about finding the look that suits you best and if you find just the right look for you, You will never be satisfied chasing trends. Find what works for you and keep it up.

7. Do Not Emulate People's Style, Develop your look.

It is not wrong to be inspired by the style of others, But When you are trying to imitate someone else you are falling into the comparison trap. Comparing yourself with others is never a good idea if you are concerned about your self-esteem, but also, when you compare yourself with a celebrity who had a whole team of professionals who helped him/her, you only get to lose out since you are comparing yourself with a reference that does not live your same reality.

8. Get Rid Of Clothes That Make You Feel Bad.

If your closet makes you feel bad every time you open it, it's time to do something about it: take out the clothes that are too tight, or don't fit well, or that you use to cover up or disappear in the crowd. Do not be merciful when doing the cleaning! And reserve your closet space only for the pieces that make you happy from now on.

9. Expand Your Fashion Comfort Zone Piece By Piece.

Think of your comfort zone as a muscle. You can train yourself to be more confident when it comes to fashion by taking small steps. Pair a single edgier or more playful item of clothing with your usual staples, for example, or wear a more subtle version of the look you'd like to achieve. Take it small, until this comfort zone has grown enough to cover all the colours, silhouettes and looks that fascinate you – no matter how daring you find them now.

10. Find a trusted role model.

We tend to be our harshest critics, that is why it can help us to see things from another perspective. Choose a person (known or not) who has similar attributes to you and who has great style and confidence. Anytime you're not sure about your look, ask yourself: Would XX wear this?

11. Shopping Is Not The Answer

The success of the fashion industry lies in convincing you that you need more clothes when in fact you already have enough. In any case, what you need is to change your relationship with the clothes you have, try new (and surprising) combinations, reserve something to go out at night and something to go to work.

12. Love Your Style

The best part of all this is simply to love your personal style. Falling in love with your personal style gives you the desire to do more and look more fashionable.

So be bold about your style and take ownership of it
